Snow | February 2, 2003 It snowed today.
I mean really snowed. For the first time this winter - which is a really strange thing for Minnesota. So I did what you are supposed to do when it snows: made snowmen and had snowball fights with my Wife and kids.
In the middle of all this revelry I was hit *smack* right in the neck by a snowball that seemed to come out of nowhere.
I had been almost too warm. But now, with the snow slowly melting and dripping down inside my shirt, I wished I was inside by the woodstove.
The culprit? Our new next door neighbor, a boy the same age as my oldest son (8) who we had been trying to hook up with in the last few months, but found too shy to really approach. Almost like he had been told so much to "watch out for strangers" that he couldn't let down his guard for the folks next door.
Now he's standing there, grinning at me - knowing somehow that he's done a very dangerous thing that is OK today.
He and my son go off to play with snowballs, trains, and computer games - and somehow a connection has been made.
Snow: the great social equalizer. [ link ]
